Mission
The mission of the Wisconsin Cancer Council Steering Committee is to provide leadership to and serve as oversight body for the Wisconsin Cancer Council and implementation of the state Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan.
To achieve this, the Steering Committee:
- Advocates for and supports the plan's implementation.
- Ensures that cross-cutting issues are addressed throughout implementation process.
- Selects top data-driven or evidence-based priorities for action.
- Incorporates existing objectives, or if needed (as new information or situations emerge), creates new objectives to address top priorities.
- Reviews and approves implementation strategies and action plans from implementation work groups.
- Appoints and oversees operational committees (policy/advocacy, nominating, membership, etc.) and implementation committees as needed.
- Recommends annual advocacy agenda to general membership.
- Serves as an advisory body to the State Division of Public Health.
- Provides opportunities for statewide, regional, local organizations and individuals to collaborate on CCC projects.
- Considers projects proposed by general membership for implementation.
The 15 Steering Committee members are elected for two year terms by the general membership of WCC. Leadership is provided by the Chairperson, Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, and the Immediate Past Chairperson. Additional ex-officio members are appointed to provide additional expertise to the Steering Committee and include the Division of Health's Chronic Disease Program Directors for Tobacco Control, Nutrition and Physical Activity, and Comprehensive Cancer Control. The Steering Committee is staffed by the WCC Executive Director.
