The Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program & Wisconsin Cancer Council:
The vision of the Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (WI CCC Program) was created through a unique partnership model between UW Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Wisconsin Division of Public Health.

The two organizations first came together through the Wisconsin Cancer Council in the early 1980's. These partners continued to collaborate in 2002 to secure the planning grant from the Centers of Disease Control to develop the Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan 2005-2010 (WI CCC Plan).

This planning process brought together over 200 statewide partners to create a strategic plan that addresses the whole continuum of cancer control in Wisconsin. The Plan serves as the foundation for the WI CCC Program and as a common framework for action that links the state health plan (Healthiest Wisconsin 2010) to cancer prevention and control over the next several years. The Wisconsin Cancer Council continues to be the coalition of organizations dedicated to the development and coordination of the Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program.

Since 2005, the WI CCC Program has begun to implement projects that affect the whole continuum of cancer care, from prevention to palliative care. Each year the projects are developed with the input of the WI Cancer Council Steering Committee. The WI CCC Program is funded through federal, state and UW funds. The staff and infrastructure for these projects are at the UW Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our goal continues to be to reduce the burden of cancer for all in Wisconsin by working collaboratively and comprehensively throughout the cancer care continuum.

Current priorities include:

  • Implementation of the Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan 2005-2010.
  • Identifying and supporting policy issues to advance cancer research, benefit cancer patients and citizens of the state.
  • Securing funding for comprehensive cancer control efforts in Wisconsin.
  • Enhancing and strengthening the infrastructure of cancer control in Wisconsin.
